Welcome to Bradley Class.
We are Year 2 and our teacher is Mrs Back. Â Our teaching assistant is Mrs Jordan.
At Wolborough, everything we do is done with love as we prepare the children for the next stage in their primary school journey with the tools they need to be resilient, confident learners and kind, caring friends.
Here is some useful information about our class:
What do I need at school every day?
•   BookbagÂ
•   Bottle of water
•   Snack (fruit/veg – we do have free KS1 fruit daily but your child may wish to bring their own)Â
•   PE kit in a drawstring bag (to stay at school)
No toys or other items from home should be brought into school.  We do not have specific ‘show and tell’ days in Year 2, however if your child has an item/book/photo etc linked to our learning then they are welcome to bring this in to share with us.
On Fridays we have Celebration Assembly – if your child has achieved or been awarded something outside of school (e.g. in a sports club, Brownies/Cubs etc) we encourage them to bring in their certificates/badges so that we can celebrate this with them.
PE Kit
Our PE days this term are Mondays and Fridays.
Home learning
Reading
Each week you will bring home your child will bring home their Little Wandle reading book that they have read in school during that week. Â Over the course of the week we practise decoding (by blending in their head), prosody (reading with expression and fluency) and comprehension (answering questions about the text) so by the time the book comes home they should be able to read it to you fluently and confidently. Â It is important that they have opportunities to practise this fluent reading so we would ask that you aim to listen to them read 3 times a week at home.
Reading books will be changed on Fridays.
We want children to be excited and enthused by books and to develop a love of reading so it is equally important that Year 2 are still having bedtime stories and sharing books with you.  We will also send home ‘reading for pleasure’ books and a book chosen from Newton Abbot Library which we visit once every half term.
Spellings
Spellings are set on a Tuesday and comprise of the Year 2 common exception words which are common words that do not follow regular phonic rules for reading or spelling. Â This will follow on from a lesson in school where we have explored the words being set. Â Your child will need to learn how to spell each word and to write a sentence using each of their spellings; this helps them to understand the context of the word as well as practise punctuation and handwriting skills. Â It also supports their learning of the words ready to be assessed each week. Â Please return homework books every Tuesday.
MathsÂ
As a school, we subscribe to an online learning tool for Maths called Times Table Rock Stars (TTRockstars). We  encourage the children in Year 2 to log on each week and play in the Garage area.  Initially this will give questions on the 10 times table and will build up and add other tables depending on their accuracy and speed.  By the end of Year 2, all children need to know their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.  In Year 2, we encourage the children to access their TT Rockstars account at least once a week as part of home learning.
